Looking for something different in the World of interesting and collectable Porsche?
This 1977, 2.7 litre, Right hand drive, Australian delivery, matching numbers car, still in its original Porsche Copper Brown metallic could be it.
Now for the fun part. If you're a Porsche dobbelkupplung sort of driver then you probably have a Spotify account. If you drive a Tiptronic then you may admit to having a few CD's left. But if you still enjoy the analogue nature of playing vinyl records, then this Sportomatic will put a smile on your face.
The "Manumatic" system was designed to eliminate the clutch pedal for everyday driving but still allow the drive to make full use of the gear box and enjoy the car.
While many purists dismiss the Sportomatic, it was a groundbreaking “clutch-less manual” that offered a unique blend of driver engagement and convenience. Far from the traditional “slush-box”, it was a sophisticated semi-automatic system that actually proved it worth on the racetrack.
A Sportomatic-equiped 911R won the gruelling 1976 Marathon de la Route and the endurance race at the Nürburgring.Porsche found that in testing, Sportomatic cars were often father than their 5-speed manual counterparts in hill climbs and track work!
It was also effortless in traffic compared with the manuals of the day. It uses a hydraulic torque converter, you can come to a complete stop without using a clutch, making it easier to live with in traffic and unlike modern automatics, you have control. It only ships which you want it to. Yes, you are still the one in control.
Not many of these survive and very few have been kept as well or serviced correctly this this one! It feels special to drive and is a flash back to a simpler time. It put a smile on my face the first time I drove it.
Sydney's leading Porsche specialist have been right through this car making sure that it still drives as well as it did when it was first delivered. ( That was just before the release of the first Star Wars move, for context ) the details of the work and a full Pre-purchase inspection available to potential buyers.
This is a very original example of a rather special 911.
